Guide to Finiki port with photos
In the ancient times the port of Finiki was one of the ports of the ancient Arkesia, because Greek archeologists discovered ruins of ancient buildings in the area. In past centuries the port belonged to Arkasa village, to where the village of Finiki also belongs nowadays administratively.

Due to its small size Finiki port is used today primarily by small fishing boats and motorboats, while the bigger boats arrive to the port of Karpathos town. The boats are protected from the forces of the open sea by a breakwater, which dampens the waves well. It’s worth to known that the west coastline is usually wavier than the east, so this is the reason why were slightly more ports built the other side of Karpathos.

If you visit the Finiki, near the port you can find some other sights of Karpathos. On the main square of the village you can walk around the famous monument, the statue of Immacolata, which is dedicated to the boat ‘Immacolata’ and its sailors. Near the square you can walk to the statue of Poseidon, or you can climb up to the church of Agios Nikolaos, where panoramic views are waiting.

On hot days recommended to your attention the beach in the center of Finiki, just a few steps away from Finiki marina, which has coarse sand and quite shallow. Finiki is so small, where there are not large distances: the port is surrounded by great fishing taverns and bars.
