Achata beach - Karpathos island

Achata beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Karpathos, surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery.

The access of Achata is quite simple and easy, because there are some road signs next to Aperi, which is the closest village to the beach. The road is narrow and winding, but the route is not too long, at its end with a parking lot. Who arrives early can even find a natural shade under some old tamarisk trees. Before arriving Achata beach, you will see this small rocky bay with gray pebbles and crystal-clear, emerald and turquouse coloured waters.

Due to its interesting seabed Achata is ideal for snorkeling, one of the best snorkeling and diving spots in Karpathos island. Visitors of Achata say that underwater life of the sea is almost as vivid as in the tropical seas. The clarity of the water is really impressive, it can be 40-50 meters in horizontal direction. There is a small rock in the water near the cost, where many swim and climb up.

How to get to Achata beach

Achata is easy to reach by car or scooter, because the beach can be accessed via a narrow road that starts from Aperi village.

On the way to the beach you will see how many amazing caves was formed by the nature, almost everywhere in the valley. The caves are filled with a million years old stalactites and stalagmites, but most of these caves are too small and situated too high to discover easily. Before you reach Achata beach, you'll see a tiny chapel with whitewashed walls and blue dome next to the road. From the chapel of Achata the beach can be seen also, which is located only a few hundred meters away.
