Kato Lakkos beach Karpathos

Kato Lakkos is an interesting beach of Karpathos with calm atmospheres, far from the crowds.

There are two options to reach Kato Lakkos beach, because this beach is a little bit special. The fastest and easiest way to visit Kato Lakkos is to catch an excursion boat in the port of Pigadia. The other way is harder, because this is a hiking trail which leads to the beach from Katodio, which is a tiny settlement in the area of Kyra Panagia.

If you choose the boat trip to Kato Lakkos for its simplicity, the excursion boats run from the port of Pigadia in the morning hours. The boats spend a few hours at Kato Lakkos, after then continue their journey to other great beaches of Karpathos. These boat trips are known as 'blue day'.

Hiking trail to Kato Lakkos

The other option to visit Kato Lakkos is a dirt road which starts from Katodio. This is a small settlement in the hills on the way to Kyra Panagia, just find these coordinates: 35.578906, 27.179109 . The road conditions are poor, so we recommend the use an off-road vehicle or quad. If you don't have a 4x4, you can still walk to the beach, the tour lasts about 30 minutes. Hiking to Kato Lakkos is a great fun, but be aware, in the summer heat it can be very strenous. The trail is about 1,5 kilometers long, and leads through some hills to the beach.

Kato Lakkos is a quite large beach with its several hundred meters length, but it has some smaller parts also. The colours of the sea are fantastic turquoise, some visitors consider it one of the most beautiful beaches in Karpathos! The beach has grey and white pebbles and rocks at some places, and there can be find some small sea caves also. Behind the beach there are some pines and tamarisks which offer some natural shade, but there are also steep cliffs also.

The beach of Kato Lakkos is poorly organized, there are no such beach bars or taverns nearby, only sometimes a few parasols and sunbeds for the guests of the boat excursions. Due to its natural charm Kato Lakkos is an almost untouched paradise of Karpathos, especially the parts of the beach which are further away from the excursion boat's mooring place.

These are the most beautiful and secluded parts of Kato Lakkos, located in the northern side of the beach. Just walk to the north, through the large pebbles and rocks, and you will find a less crowded area with amazing turquoise colors and smaller pebbles. If you want to stay completely secluded or nude, this is your place!

There is one more thing which is very important by visiting Kato Lakkos. By boat trips you can buy some drink or food on the boat, but if you visit this beach on foot, take some water with you, because there are no bars or water supply!
