Spoa, Karpathos island villages

Spoa is an agricultural settlement on the northeast side of Karpathos, situated on the hills between Kyra Panagia and Olymbos.

Spoa is a small village, but it belongs to the important settlements of Karpathos due its agricultural production. It is located directly next to the main road, which leads to the traditional Olymbos, so everybody will meet Spoa who is heading to the north. Spoa is surrounded by lush scenery, there are many grapeyards, olives, fig trees, pine trees which grow here.

It is recommended to find a parking lot and stop the car in the outskirts, because Spoa has several narrow alleys which were designed only for pedestrian traffic in the old times. When you walk through and discover Spoa village, you will see some sacred chapels and churches, the religious life is so significant and important here as in other parts of Karpathos. Life is going slowly in this village, but that is why the locals live here.

We mentioned earlier that in the area of Spoa there are many grape groves, this plant feels particularly well on the surrounding hills. Due to this Spoa village is far famous from its vineyards, the locals produce high quality demi-sec wines.

Because the village is situated on a hillside and faced to east, the sunrise is truly amazing from this place!

Spoa Karpathos

The road to Olympos next to Spoa, so many tourists see this village on the way to Olymbos. One of the most beloved parts of the village is the tiny Agios Nikolaos, which is known for many as a port of Spoa. Agios Nikolaos is a charming fishing village, but it has also a few taverns, and a beach which is suitable for snorkeling and diving.
