Volada village is a mountain village of Karpathos, which is well known from its stunning views of the sea and the bay of Pigadia. In the surrounding mountains there can be find many beautiful traditional villages, and Volada is one of these charming settlements.
It looks like a typical Greek mountain village with narrow and windings streets, a few taverns and amazing lookout points.

Where is Volada in Karpathos Island, and how to get there
The access of Volada (on some maps Βωλάδα in Greek) is quite easy in Karpathos Island, because the village is located just about 10 kilometers away from Pigadia, near Aperi village. The road which leads to the western side of Karpathos and passes Aperi, Othos and Pyles villages, goes through Volada as well.

What you should know about Volada
Volada is one of the largest villages in the central region with its 251 residents. The parking may be difficult here due to the narrow and winding route, so if you see a parking lot, don’t hesitate! With the exception of the main road almost all of the streets are narrow alleys for pedestrians.

Near Volada you can reach the highest point of Karpathos Island, the peak of Kali Limni with a height of 1215 meters. This place can be reached only by hiking from a small plateau which is called Lastos. In the area there were found ruins of ancient castles, which were built in different periods. The Greek archeologists said that the oldest castle was built in the Bronze Age, and the latest was built by the Turks, but most of the cases you can see just some ruined stones and walls.

Volada has some hiking trails which connect the famous nearby villages, Aperi, Othos and Pyles.
It’s worth to know the main road just passes through the north outskirts of the settlement, and the center of Volada is almost hidden. To explore the inner streets and alleys, and of course to reach the hidden gems (tiny chapels) you have to walk into the houses.
Why visit Volada in Karpathos
In Volada village you can enjoy spectacular views, and you can take a pleasant walk in the alleys. The traditional houses and streets introduce for visitors the past, structures of an old Greek mountain village.

Mentionable restaurants in Othos are Taverna Klimataria and Antonis Restaurant, which are traditional family taverns and you can find these at the two ends of the village.

Even if you don’t stop here (or can’t find an empty parking lot) you will notice the houses of the village are well kept, and residents take care about their homes.
