The beautiful Kastelia bay (or Maounas Beach on some maps) is a quiet, secluded beach in the southern side of Amoopi village. This beach is a hidden gem in Amoopi and also in Karpathos, which can be find a little further from the central areas.
Where is Kastelia bay in Amoopi, Karpathos Island and how to access
You can find Kastelia bay on the eastern coast of the island, in the southern areas of Amoopi (Lakki) village. This beach is well hidden by the hills of the village, therefore it is less known as other beaches in the area, and from the central parts of Amoopi it can’t be seen.

To reach Kastelia bay (Maounas Beach) there is a small sidewalk from the direction of Votsalakia beach and Kastelia beach, which leads up to the hill of Kastelia, and after just follow the trail to the other side of the hill. It can be reached directly by car or motorbicycle also, just follow the road signs and turn off from the main road of Amopi where the way to Castelia Bay Hotel is shown, because this accommodation was built directly next to the beach.

Kastelia bay (Maounas beach) in Amoopi is one of the hidden gems of Karpathos, with amazing water colours and calm atmospheres, far away from crowds. This place is organized only with some parasols and sunbeds for rent, because there are noth enough place for other touris services.

The nearest taverns are slightly further, you have to walk behind the beach about 250-300 meters to reach Taverna Nina and Kasos Restaurant.
The waters of the Kastelia bay (Maounas beach) are crystal clear, which make one of the best snorkeling and diving sites not just in Amoopi, but also in Karpathos Island, Greece.

The rocky seabed is vibrant from marine life, so definitely worth wearing diving goggles at this place, and usually Kastelia bay is also as good for snorkeling as other famous beaches of Amoopi, such as Votsalakia beach or Kastelia beach. Due to rocky seabed water shoes may needed, especially on the shallow parts.

Kastelia bay is surrounded by some terraces, which make its look interesting, and you can walk into the sea from there. It’s interesting that despite the hills of the area this beach can be windy, due to the local wind streams.

Amoopi (Lakki) is a calm place, but the life is even more peaceful and relaxing here than elsewhere in the area, so Kastelia bay is a great place to hide from the crowds.

Do not confuse that in Amoopi village and in Karpathos island there is two beaches with the name of ‘Kastelia’. Kastelia bay is the located further away from the central areas and it is quiete small, while Kastelia beach is slightly larger in its size, and it can find directly next to Votsalakia beach.
