Votsalakia beach guide and photos, informations what you should known
Votsalakia is a quite large beach in Amoopi (Lakki) village with its length of 130 meters, just as long as the neighboring Mega Amoopi beach. These two beaches are separated by a small peninsula, where the small church of Agia Apostoli was built. If you are looking for the best panoramic views to Votsalakia beach, walk to the peninsula and you will see the entire beach with the hills of Amoopi village in the background.

The beachfront is quite narrow due to the cliffs which are just a few meters away from the sea, and despite this the area is filled with parasols and sunbeds. The seabed is shallow and altough the coast is covered by coarse sand and pebbles, in the sea there are a lot of rocks. Swimming shoes can be useful by visiting Votsalakia beach, if your soles are sensitive.

One of the specialities of Votsalakia beach (Παραλία Βοτσαλάκια) is its exceptional snorkeling and diving features, which make one of the best snorkeling sites all over Karpathos Island and in Greece. The area of Amoopi is extremely rich in great beaches which are especially recommended for snorkel, but this place definitely outstanding among these.

In front of Votsalakia beach there are a few small islets in the sea, where the marine life is also usually vibrant, and if you swim well, you can discover these parts too. Almost every time when we visit Votsalakia in Amoopi and can spend a few hours here, we swim to the islets.

The emerald and turquoise colours of Votsalakia beach with its crystal clear waters enchant most of the visitors, so this beach is one of the (not so hidden) gems in Karpathos. The parts which are near the peninsula are almost untouched, and the rocky seabed is also may offer surprises if you dive here.

The beach is not so spacious due to the 3-4 meters high steep cliffs in the background, but if you arrive in the morning hours, you have the chance to take a good place. It’s an important information that until late afternoon the cliffs behind Votsalakia beach don’t offer much natural shade, because the beachfront faces to southeast. These cliffs usually protect well the bay from the western winds, and the days are rare when the winds are significant on the beachfront.

Behind the beach there are some taverns and beach bars of Amoopi village, situated just a few steps from the beach. One of our favourite favourite places is Calypso Restaurant here, there can be find also Skala beach bar and Votsalakia Restaurant as well. These local restaurants are waiting for guests from late morning until night, and offer delicious meals for dinners.
On the southern side of Votsalakia beach you can walk within 2 minutes to Kastelia beach, which is as good in snorkeling options as this beach, just slightly more hidden by the steep cliffs.
