Kastelia beach is one of the most interesting beaches of Karpathos Island in Amoopi village, located on the east coast of the island,because is especially recommended for snorkel. The beach has two parts, a tiny and a larger one, which are separeted by just a small rocky peninsula from each other.

Where to find Kastelia beach in Amoopi, Karpathos Island and how to get there

Kastelia beach, or Παραλία Καστέλια in Greek language can be find in Amoopi village, directly next to the famous Votsalakia beach. From the center of Amoopi, where the parking lots are situated, a walk to Kastelia beach takes about 5 minutes, or if you arrive to Amoopi from the south, you can turn off the road before you reach the center of the village. From the central bus stop of Amoopi a pleasant walk takes just approx. 5 – 6 minutes to here.

Kastelia beach is well hidden by the sandstone cliffs of Amoopi, but you will recognize the exceptional colours of the sea. For its access you have to walk down some stairs, which lead to both parts of this place.

On your left side you will see a tiny beach, which is the smallest part of Kastelia beach, recommended for only a few people due for its size. On the right there is the large part of Kastelia beach (Παραλία Καστέλια), with a length of about 40 meters.

Both beaches of Kastelia have rocky seabed with pebbles and coarse sand, which is typical for the southern beaches in Amoopi (Lakki) village. These beaches are quite shallow, so water shoes may needed until you reach the deeper parts of the sea.

Amoopi is famous from its snorkeling and diving capabilities in Karpathos island, and Kastelia beach is one of the best places for this activity. You will see that the marine life is usually as vibrant here as on the neighboring Votsalakia beach, which is one of the best known snorkeling beaches in Karpathos Island, Greece.

The largest part of Kastelia beach is slightly organized with some parasols and sunbeds, and it can be a bit more crowded than the smaller parts, but not disturbingly. Sometimes there are a few parasols on the smaller parts also, but usually just 4 – 5, because these places are quite narrow and the space is limited due geographical conditions.

It’s an important info that this beach is usually well hidden from the winds, due the natural shelter of the cliff behind. When the winds are getting stronger at higher places, here at the sea level the winds are much calmer.

If you would like to eat or drink something, you can reach the central parts of Amoopi within 5 minutes, because most of the beaches nearby are connected by a sidewalk. The most popular restaurants are Kalypso Restaurant and Votsalakia Restaurant here at the central parts.

There is an another nice beach with a similar name in the area, which is called Kastelia bay or Maounas Beach on some maps. This tiny bay is hidden by a hill on the southern side of Kastelia beach, but a small hiking trail connect these beautiful beaches.

If you are looking for sandy beaches in the area of Amoopi, just find Mega Amoopi beach or Little Amoopi beach on the north part of the village, about 550 meters away from Kastelia beach. These are known as the most family friendly beaches in the area, offering fine sand in the seabed and shallow sea.
