Agios Theodoros beach (or Παραλία Άγιος Θεόδωρος in Greek) is an interesting beach of Karpathos with orange coloured rocks and emerald sea colours, on the southwestern side of the island.

Where to find Agios Theodoros beach in Karpathos
Agios Theodoros beach is one of southernmost beaches in Karpathos, which can be accessed only by car or by motorbicycle. The nearest village to Agios Theodoros is Arkasa (Arcesin), located about 7 kilometers from the beach, while the other settlement near is Kipi Afiarti, about 8 kilometers away.
The access of the beach is much better from Arkasa, because Agios Theodoros beach is connected with the town by an asphalt road, and from the direction of Afiartis there is only a dirt road after leaving Agrilaopotamos beach, which can be in poor condition.

This area is characterized by barren rocks and huge plains in Karpathos island, the vegetation is limited only to spikey bushes. The southern part is Karpathos is much different in geographical conditions than the mountanious north areas, make this island so diverse.

At the end of the road a small family restaurant called Taverna “Agios Theodoros” was built, which is a friendly place in Karpathos island with great guest reviews.

Agios Theodoros beach (Paralia Agios Theodoros, Παραλία Άγιος Θεόδωρος) got its name from a Greek Orthodox Church called Agios Theodoros, which is situated directly next to the restaurant. Easy to recognize for its whitewashed walls, and this is the only church in the area.

To reach the beach you have to walk from the church about 100 meters on a dirt road, where a small trail leads down to the sea. If you don’t want to walk, this road can be accessed by smaller cars also, where some parking lots can be find.


The beach is is very simple and basicly organized with some parasols and sunbeds, and usually that’s all. The size of Agios Theodoros beach is quite small, because in the background, just a few meters from the sea there are steep cliffs of limestone. This area is characterized by coarse sand and pebbles, with some rocks in the water.

The sea surface is usually calm here, so this beach may be great also for snorkeling. The wind conditions are often suitable also, because during summer periods in most of the time winds blow from the direction of northwest, and Agios Theodoros beach is well protected due to its background walls. The plain which is above the beach is often windy, but down at the beach it can’t be feel.

The nearest beaches to Agios Theodoros are Araki beach (1,3 km) and Agrilaopotamos beach (3 km) in the east, and Agios Nikolaos beach of Arkasa about 5 kilometers away. If you would like to stay in the area, just take a look to the apartments and hotels of Arkasa, which is the nearest village with a lot of accommodation options, a sandy beach and calm atmospheres.
