Arkasa
The town was built on the ruins of Arkesia, which was an ancient city thousands of years ago.
Arkasa is located along the coastline, on the slopes of the surrounding hills, with an amphitheatric layout. This is the biggest city on the west side of the island, which has a population about 600. The town is a quiet place most of the year, but as the summer comes, it has many visitors. You can found here some traditional tavernas, bars, souvenir shops, car rental agencies here, so there are many opportunities. Take a walk on the paved streets, take a look to the sacred chapels, or just relax on the beach - enjoy the nice athmosphere of Arkasa!
Houses of Arkasa
One of the most important sights in Arkasa is a Byzantine temple, Ag. Anastasia, dating from the 5th century. It has well preserved mosaic floor, showing you the fine art of the predecessors. Near Arkasa you can find great trekking paths, or simply climb the mountain called Paleokastro, where you can see the ruins of Arkesia.
The best beach in the area called Agios Nikolaos, just one kilometres from the south side of the town.
